The Carolyn Cacioppo Scholarship


Applications are now available for the 2008 Carolyn Cacioppo Scholarship Award for library school students interested in pursuing a career in Children's Librarianship in a Public Library.

The amount of the award is presently set at $1,500 and was established in 1982 to honor the memory of a young, dynamic and dedicated Suffolk County Children's Librarian who passed away after a long illness.


Eligibility

To be eligible, the applicant must be a resident of Suffolk County and be presently attending an accredited graduate library school but not due to graduate prior to June 2008. He or she must exhibit an interest in the field of Children's Librarianship in a Public Library. Former recipients of this award may not apply again.


Procedures for Applying

  1. Complete the application.
  2. Attach a 300 word typed statement regarding your philosophy towards Children's Librarianship. If you previously applied for the scholarship, you may resubmit your original statement of philosophy.
  3. Submit two (2) letters of recommendation.
  4. Request a copy of your library school transcript to be sent to the Scholarship Chairperson (see below).

Deadline

Completed applications, including statement of philosophy, letters of recommendation, and library school transcript must be received by the Scholarship Committee Chairperson no later than March 31, 2008.

Award Presentation

Candidates will be selected by a committee of CLASC, Inc. members and the recipient will be announced at CLASC's Annual Dinner meeting in April 2008.
